Planting of the Commemorative Orchard at Churchdown Surgery

Many thanks to the surgeries Community Garden Volunteers and Health Champions for planting a small fruit orchard in the grounds at the front of the building, in commemoration of those people in Churchdown effected by Covid 19. As the orchard grows and the weather improves, this will be a peaceful community space for connection & reflection. There are 10 fruit trees in total, ranging from apples and pears to quinces and figs.

The funds for the trees were raised by a patient at the surgery who did a sponsored head shave last summer, and through a summer plant and cake sale in the community garden. We hope to raise more funds this year for a seating area and a shelter that can be used to protect our patients and volunteers from the weather, so everyone can enjoy the garden all year round.

If you are interested in joining our friendly gardening group on a Thursday morning between 09:00 – 12:00, please contact the surgery and ask to speak to one of our Social Prescribing Link Workers who will introduce you to the group.
